November Gigs

Despite Covid's best attempts we're giving this "opening up" lark another shot! So hopefully here's some gigs you can attend and enjoy in a socially distanced but aurally satisfying manner.

The Jack Earle Trio (myself, Kieran Rafferty, and Patrick Schmidli) will be hitting up the fabulous Paris Cat to play originals, flip classics on their head, and rock out with odd-time grooves.

We'll be featuring Tash Weatherill, who is one of Melbourne’s up and coming jazz vocalists. She grew up in South Australia’s jazz capital, Mt Gambier, and attended the Generations in Jazz Academy. Tash spent her formative years in jazz education performing with big bands and even had the opportunity to open for Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band on a brief tour of Australia’s east coast. She was also a six-time finalist in the Generations In Jazz vocal scholarship.

As a Monash University graduate, she had the privilege of studying under Gian Slater, Michelle Nicolle, and many more esteemed musicians during this time. In a pre-covid world, Tash featured regularly across popular Melbourne venues and the Tash Weatherill Quartet performed as part of the 2018 Melbourne International Jazz Festival program. Tash released her debut album in 2019, a collaborative project with trombonist, Josh Bennier, titled 'Chasing Game'.

During 2020, Tash completed her honours thesis at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music (Monash University) under the supervision of Jordan Murray. Her practice-based research explored the use of implementation intentions as a means of habit manipulation during improvisation.
